Kenya power Union leaders protest after colleague assaulted by MP
To demand further action be taken against the lawmaker, the protesters marched to the Kitengela police station.
The MP was arrested on Tuesday night, pending arraignment.
The legislator was caught on camera hitting their colleague, a Kenyan power engineer, on Monday because the power at his Kitengela home had been cut off.
The Kenya Power engineering team was responding to ongoing complaints from clients in the area after discovering that the lawmaker had illegally connected electricity to his home.
The protesters were also against the lawmaker's illegal act of connecting power illegally at his home, demanding that anyone in need of power obtain authorization from the company.
“We the workers of Kenya Power, we will not condone people channeling power to their houses without authorization, instances of people buying power cables for themselves, connecting power by themselves, we will not agree with the illegal activity,” one worker spoke.
“If other people come to our offices and register for power connectivity, why shouldn’t others do the same too?”He added.
