Kenya Power has restored power supply to parts of Central Rift, Nairobi, North Rift and Western regions following a widespread outage that lasted several hours on Friday.

In a statement, the company listed major towns that currently have power supply; Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nanyuki, Nakuru, Naivasha, Thika, Eldoret, Kericho, Kakamega, Siaya, Busia, Vihiga, Kisumu, Bungoma and Webuye.

"We would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage and seek their patience as we work towards restoration of normal service in the remaining areas," the statement read in part.

"We will provide additional updates on the progress of the restoration exercise in subsequent alerts."

Kenyans online, however, have questioned why two nationwide blackouts would occur in less than a week, demanding answers from the relevant offices.

"3 hours later, what's the cause of the blackout? What's the progress? What happened to you guys ensuring it doesn't happen again? Most people are economically dependent on you such that today for the past 3hrs they are losing money. What happens to them?"

"Just tell us what you guys do on Fridays," read some of the comments online.

The two blackouts come after Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi demanded a report from Kenya Power on technical, operational and human capacity of the power system and also steps to address the national blackouts in the country.

"I will not tell you blackouts will be a thing of the past. We are going to put in measures and systems that will mitigate against blackouts but if they happen, there will be a system to respond to blackouts swiftly and restore power in the shortest time possible," Wandayi said on September 5, 2024.
