Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) employee for allegedly demanding Ksh.300,000 to reconnect electricity.

The suspect, Joshua Wasakha Wangeni, was nabbed on Wednesday after asking a godown operator in Nairobi for Ksh.300,000 to reconnect electricity which he had previously disconnected.

According to EACC, Wangeni later negotiated the ‘facilitation fee’ to Ksh.200,000 but the complainant refused to pay the bribe, instead reporting the matter to the anti-corrupt body.

EACC officers swung into action and arrested the suspect while receiving the bribe.

He was detained at Kilimani Police Station and later released on bail Thursday, pending the finalization of the investigation.
