Kenya plans to send more teachers abroad to tame unemployment crisis
The government is planning to export
teachers to foreign countries to tame the high job scarcity numbers in
Kenya.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Migos Ogamba said there are more than 400,000 teachers who have qualified but remain unemployed, while the government is facing financial challenges to hire them.
"We have teachers who have been out here for 10 years and that is really unfair," he said while appearing before the Senate on Wednesday.
Migos said the move will be facilitated by the strategies that the government has initiated to register Kenya as a nation that uses English as its national language.
"We are trying to come up with strategies one of which we are trying to make sure that Kenya is listed as a native English-speaking country because that is the basis of sending teachers out there to work," he added.
Currently, the government has only been able to announce 220,000 job vacancies for teachers, a smaller number compared to qualified teachers.
