Kenya Kwanza nominates Moses Wetangula as National Assembly Speaker
President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza has
now nominated the alliance co-principal and Ford Kenya party leader Moses
Wetangula to the position of Speaker of the National Assembly.
This is
according to Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader, and fellow Kenya
Kwanza co-principal, Musalia Mudavadi who made the announcement on Saturday
during the alliance’s meeting in Karen, Nairobi.
Mudavadi
said all the coalition principals had agreed to pick Wetangula for the position
as had been agreed before the August General Elections.
“I have
the singular honour and privilege on behalf of Kenya Kwanza to announce that we
have unanimously agreed that the Speaker nominee for the National Assembly for
the Kenya Kwanza coalition shall be Moses Masika Wetangula, Papa wa Roma,” said
Mudavadi.
The outcome of the August polls results saw
the Ford Kenya party chief scoop majority of the seats in his
Bungoma backyard on top of successfully defending his Senate
position.
“I told you that those coup plotters won't
push me from Ford-Kenya, I promised them that they must be defeated in these
elections which has happened, their coup died on arrival,” Wetangula said after
results declaration on August 12, 2022.
Following
President-elect William Ruto's victory at the August polls, Wetangula and all
the Kenya Kwanza leaders are staring at power-sharing deals if Ruto is sworn
into office.
Mudavadi was
promised the position of Prime Cabinet Secretary if the Kenya Kwanza managed to
clinch the presidency.
