Kenya denies involvement in disappearance of South Sudan activist Moris Mabior
Morris Mabior went missing in Kenya after allegedly being abducted by men in police uniform in Nairobi on February 4, 2023.
In a case filed at the East African Court of Justice, the AG through state counsel Wanjiku Mwangi says that Mabior has never been arrested or investigated by the police.
An affidavit by inspector Vitalis Kibet, says that the chief inspector named Ruto, who allegedly took away Mabior on allegations of terrorism is not an officer with the Anti-terrorism Police Unit.
"That at no point did the Anti-terrorism Police Unit have any reason to be involved with the subject as he was not under any investigations or a person of interest for the unit or Kenyan Government," reads the affidavit.
In the case, Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) have sued Governments of South Sudan and Kenya, regarding alleged arrest and detention of the activist, saying that it is unlawful.
They want the two governments to be compelled to give information on the whereabouts of Mabior.
