President William Ruto has assured delegates at the Kenya European Union Business Forum of Kenya’s commitment to building strong trade ties with its partners.

According to Ruto, the Kenya Kwanza government is determined to implement pro-trade policies that foster inclusive wealth creation and creates opportunities.

“Our goal is to build a competitive, resilient economy that benefits every Kenyan while strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships with allies like the EU,” said President Ruto.

In the forum themed ‘Digitising Trade’, the Head of State said Kenya is building a robust digital economy through initiatives like the last-mile fibre connectivity programme.

“Through the expanded e-Citizen platform, over 20,000 government services have been digitised, making it easier, faster, and cheaper for businesses to engage with the government,” added Ruto, also boasting of the digital hubs established in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

Through policies in the Finance Bill 2025, Ruto said, Kenya aims to reduce tax on digital asset transfers, a reform to foster a pro-business environment.

“This signals our commitment to an innovation-driven economy that nurtures start-ups, MSMEs, and investors alike,” argued the President.

Ruto also called for innovative ways to unlock potential of Kenya-EU trade, while addressing current and emerging barriers.

“We must move beyond good intentions to actionable outcomes that bring tangible benefits to our businesses, investors, and citizens.”

He termed the European Union as an instrumental partner in driving development cooperation in energy, infrastructure, water and sanitation, urban development, agriculture, and other key sectors.
