East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kennedy Musyoka Kalonzo has said his election to the position was out of competence and not his relationship with Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Musyoka, who is now serving his second term as an EALA MP argued that he has been an integral member of the Wiper Party even before the nomination.

“Someone can say I was lucky or entitled…but the results was a vote of confidence and it speaks to competence,” Musyoka said during an interview on Spice FM.

“I started interacting with our leaders back in 2013. I did not even think I was going to run. If I wasn’t competent, the party could have easily refused and gotten another candidate,” he added.

However, Musyoka could not totally deny his father, Kalonzo Musyoka’s impact on his political career.

“I would be lying to say he had no influence…I am lucky as I am able to learn a lot from him. I am able to watch him chair meetings… deal with different issues. When I am stuck somewhere I call him and he will explain. But it still goes to service to the party,” Musyoka explained.

On being looked at as one who was handed the EALA nomination on a silver platter, Musyoka said;

“Life is usually unfair, I came to terms with that. In one way or another I will always be looked at unfairly, I try not to focus too much on that because I know what I am capable of, with time the results will speak for themselves.”

Musyoka won the EALA MP seat for the second term after garnering 262 votes from Members of Parliament.

He will be representing the Azimio la Umoja coalition in the legislative house alongside Winnie Odinga, Kanini Kega, and Suleiman Shahbal.
