A driver attached to the Kasipul National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has been arrested and arraigned in court over the murder of a 35-year-old bouncer in Oyugis town, Homa Bay County.

Kennedy Ogalo Osano was arraigned at the Oyugis Law Courts over last week’s murder of Evans Okoda at Rawinji area.

Okoda, who was part of the security detail of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero during the 2022 General Election, was found dead in the compound of his rented house on Friday.

He had sustained serious injuries on the head while his right fingers were chopped off at the wrist.

According to a testimony given in court by Rachuonyo South sub-county Criminal Investigations Officer David Kirui, Osano's phone call data linked him with the murder.

Kirui said they had gathered a lot of data whose analyses are yet to be completed.

He said they still need more time to continue holding Osano in custody to enable them conclude the probe into the matter.

During the hearing, the prosecution led by Churchil Ogema urged the court to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) more time to continue holding the suspect.

Oyugis Resident Magistrate Cynthia Cheruiyot granted the DCI seven more days to continue detaining Osano.

The case will be mentioned on May 14, 2024 when further directions will be given as the suspect is held at the Oyugis Police Station.
