Karua calls for Ruto’s exit as NARC Kenya adopts key reforms at NDC

Among the key decisions is the implementation of term limits for party officials, with talks underway to limit the party leader's tenure to two terms of a certain length.

Party leader Martha Karua praised the NDC's resolutions, emphasising the importance of rebranding and planning for the 2027 general election. 

"I want to thank the NDC for giving the leadership of NARC Kenya the mandate to rebrand the party in readiness for 2027," Karua stated. As part of this rebranding effort, the party has resolved to change its official colors from green and red to purple and white. 

The NDC also approved a nationwide membership recruitment drive to strengthen the party's grassroots networks ahead of the next election cycle. 

Karua expressed confidence in the party’s renewed energy, stating, 

"We are gathered here to fight social injustice burdened by high taxes rooted in the Ruto administration. Basic necessities are being denied to Kenyans, and overtaxation is raiding Kenyans’ pockets through SHA/Shif."

The relationship between NARC Kenya and the Azimio la Umoja coalition was a major topic of discussion at the conference. 

Delegates resolved to ratify the party’s exit from the coalition, following Karua’s formal letter to Azimio signaling the party’s intent to withdraw. 

"The NDC has given us the mandate to exit Azimio," Karua affirmed, adding that the move marks a critical step in redefining the party’s independence and direction.

Karua used the platform to criticise the government on a variety of issues, including the education system, which she described as in crisis. 

"The current funding model has made poor students vulnerable, and many may not finish their education," she said. 

She also expressed concern about the state of Parliament, claiming that it is "under threat," and chastised the Ruto administration for failing to address the needs of ordinary Kenyans.

In a scathing critique of the controversial Adani port deal, Karua applauded the judiciary for its stance on the matter while condemning those defending it. 

"I applaud the courts on the Adani deal and strongly criticize those speaking for Adani," she remarked. She reiterated her call for change, asserting that "Ruto must go" to restore Kenya’s prosperity and dignity.

Karua reminded delegates of this legacy and encouraged them to take decisive action for a better Kenya. "We are gathered here on this historical ground, once used to fight for justice, to once again stand against injustice and inequality," she stated.
