Kamiti Prison escapees to face fresh charges alongside 9 officers, CS Matiang'i says

Speaking at Kamiti prison Matiang'i said the escapees; Musharaf Abdalla alias Alex Shikanda (34), Joseph Juma Odhiambo (30) and Mohammed Ali Abikar (35) will be arraigned alongside the 9 prison officers who are suspected to have aided their escape. 

At the same time, the Interior CS urged Kenyans to be vigilant even as he reassured that the government was on high alert to counter any terror-related threats within the country and at entry points including airports.

"We are not out of the woods yet, let us be careful and watchful and you may be inconvenienced but we are not in the normal space at the moment, we have raised the level of alert. We are determined and we will not sleep until we keep our country safe."

He said the screening systems have been changed at the airports and Standard Gauge Railway termini.

The three jailbirds were cornered within the border of Tana River and Mwingi deep in the bush following a tip-off by members of the public.
