Kalonzo maintains he's the official opposition leader, dismisses Junet's remarks
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained
he is the official opposition leader after the presumed exit of Raila Odinga
from local politics.
Speaking in Mombasa ahead of his three-day
tour of the region on Friday, Kalonzo said the decision was made by over 20
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party affiliates.
The Wiper boss scoffed at the remarks by
Minority Leader Junet Mohamed who on Thursday declared himself as the
Opposition leader.
“As it stands now, I’m the official opposition
leader because I’m the Minority Leader and you cannot take away the job God has
given me. Those in the opposition should know I am their leader,” Junet said on
Thursday.
Kalonzo however retorted: “I’m ready to be
the leader of the official opposition. This is the team. You will see the opposition
like never before. We may be light in numbers in Parliament, but outside we
have the people of Kenya.”
Kalonzo had earlier stated on his official X
account that: “There is something called ‘defacto.’ The country cannot afford
to have a void.”
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya co-principals
Eugene Wamalwa and Jeremiah Kioni reiterated that Kalonzo was the second senior-most
political leader in the political outfit after the departure of Odinga, who
launched his bid for the African Union Commission earlier in the week.
