Kalonzo, Kuria condemn attack on Gachagua at Mwiki church

Musyoka described the incident as a state-sponsored assault, alleging that the government was behind what he termed an orchestrated attempt to intimidate political opponents in sacred spaces. Speaking during the service, he expressed dismay at the growing politicization of places of worship.

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Senior Presidential Advisor Moses Kuria have strongly condemned Sunday’s attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a church service in Mwiki, Kasarani.

Musyoka described the incident as a state-sponsored assault, alleging that the government was behind what he termed an orchestrated attempt to intimidate political opponents in sacred spaces. Speaking during the service, he expressed dismay at the growing politicization of places of worship.

“We must not allow places of worship to be turned into theatres of violence,” said Musyoka. “This is state-sponsored, and it is unacceptable.”

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who was in Musyoka’s company, also criticized the government, calling for restraint and respect for religious institutions.

The Wiper Party leader further appealed to the clergy to play a more active role in fostering national unity, urging men of God to pray for the country amid what he called the weakening of state institutions.

“We call on the Church to be a beacon of hope. Let us not allow our country to slide,” he urged.

Musyoka went on to criticize President William Ruto’s recent tour of Central Kenya, accusing the government of mobilizing unemployed youth for political rallies rather than addressing their socio-economic struggles.

“They are using jobless youth to fill rallies. That’s not leadership—it’s manipulation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Moses Kuria, a key advisor to President Ruto, also condemned the violence meted out on Gachagua, describing it as “ungodly” and a reflection of “primitive political wars” that have no place in houses of worship.

“This is utterly ungodly. Leave your backward and primitive political wars out of places of worship,” said Kuria.

He compared the incident to the 2021 chaos in Kenol, Murang’a County, where a church service attended by then-Deputy President William Ruto turned violent.

“Today was AIPCA Kenol reloaded,” Kuria remarked. “The lightning that will strike us is still loading. Pole sana, Rigathi Gachagua.”
