Kakamega County to sponsor top KCPE candidate Otieno Lewis through high school

Omondi Glen, one of the two top candidates in the KCPE results released on Wednesday will be sponsored through high school by the Kakamega
County government.
Governor Ferandes Barasa made the
announcement on Wednesday after joining Otieno at
his school, St. Peters Mumias Boys Primary, to
celebrate their stellar performance.
Otieno
emerged top in Kenya after scoring 431 marks. He tied with Fwaro Makokha Robinson
of Christ the King Primary School in
Bungoma.
“Good academic results
are as a result of deliberate efforts from teachers, parents, learners and the
community. Congratulations St. Peters Mumias Boys Primary for placing
Kakamega County on the National map, by producing the best student,” Governor
Barasa said.
“The County Government
of Kakamega will sponsor the top student, Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen, through his
Secondary Education,” he added.
Otieno and Makokha led a total
of 1,233,850 candidates who sat for the examinations in 28,408 centres across
the country.
Education Cabinet
Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, while announcing the results, said a majority of the
candidates (50.2 per cent) scored between 200 and 299 marks out of 500.
Some 9,443 candidates
scored over 400 marks, marking 0.01% of the candidature, while 307,756 others
scored between 300 and 399 marks, making 24.94 per cent of this year’s class.
At the same time the
100 to 199 mark bracket had 296,336 candidates (24.4%) while 724 candidates
scored below 100 marks, which is 0.06% of the class.
