Kakamega cleaning official under probe over Ksh.615M wealth
The Ethics and
Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is probing John Koveti Lumula, the head of
cleaning services at the Kakamega County Government, over Ksh.615 million unexplained
wealth suspected to have been acquired through the theft of public funds.
The commission’s
spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said Lumula was arrested this week and escorted to EACC's Bungoma
regional offices where he recorded a statement.
EACC said it launched
a probe after receiving complaints that Lumula accumulated unexplained
wealth worth millions of shillings through kickbacks.
The anti-graft agency
says it believes the county official received the money from suppliers and contractors
when he served in the procurement department before he was moved to his current
department.
Lumula's multi-million-shilling wealth includes a top private school called West Bridge Elite School, Eregi worth Ksh.200 million, hotels, landed properties, commercial buildings and high-end vehicles, EACC said.
