The Kajiado County
government has stopped salaries of all striking doctors working in the devolved
unit.
Governor Joseph
Ole Lenku said the county will also not remit doctors' contributions to the
Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
According to the
county boss, the striking doctors will have to write show-course letters
explaining why they’re participating in an illegal protest against a court
order.
He stated that
those who will not explain will be dismissed and their jobs given to deserving
people.
The development
comes even as the defiant KMPDU announced yet another peaceful
protest by doctors in Nairobi, as the medics' strike rages on
43 days later.
On Tuesday, the
union rejected the proposed return-to-work formula by
the government.
KMPDU maintained
its stance on medical interns’ pay, saying it was willing to compromise on all other demands so
long as the young medics' remuneration is achieved.
The Employment and
Labour Relations Court last week extended orders suspending the protracted
doctors' strike in a bid to pave the way for further negotiations.
