The Judiciary on Friday organized a psycho-social counselling and support session to its staff stationed at the Makadara Law Courts following an incident where a magistrate was shot.

Magistrate Monicah Kivuti was on Thursday shot Londiani Police Station OCS Samson Kipchirchir in the court premises after she remanded his wife for violating her bond terms.

Magistrate Kivuti is presently in a stable condition, with Chief Justice Martha Koome since ordering closure of the court until Monday next week.

Chief Registrar Winfridah Mokaya on Friday hence held a meeting with judicial officers attached to the Makadara court at the Supreme Court building.

Speaking during the session, Ms. Mokaya said the shooting incident was traumatising for the entire Judiciary.

The Magistrates were taken through a counselling session by a team of psychologists from Chiromo Hospital led by Dr. Rose Ngondi.

Magistrate Tito Gesora and colleagues requested enhanced security measures and infrastructure improvements at the Makadara Law Courts.

Ms. Mokaya assured them that the Judiciary management is aware of the situation and committed to ensuring the safety of judicial officers and staff upon their return next week.

She further highlighted the need for adequate funding to address both infrastructural challenges and security concerns in Makadara.
