Jubilee postpones Nairobi party primaries yet again
The Jubilee Party has postponed the Nairobi County nominations from Monday, April 24 to Wednesday, April 26.
In the announcement, Party Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, said that they had reached the decision to move the primaries forward to avoid cases of interference with other parties bearing in mind that the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will hold its primaries in the city county on Tuesday, April 25.
Tuju said that the party is prepared to hold the primaries but argued that Nairobi County is the most competitive and hence the need to give it more time.
In his address, Mr Tuju noted that ODM had already booked most of the polling stations, which include schools, and hence the need to move their nominations.
“ODM had already booked most of the polling stations including schools and hence there could have been a possible clash if we held our Nairobi primaries tomorrow (Monday), noted Mr Tuju.
Jubilee announced the new nomination dates on Saturday, April 22 after the first phase of the exercise in 21 counties aborted on Friday, April 21.
The Jubilee primaries will now start with Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kirinyaga, Bomet and Nandi counties.
On Tuesday, the nominations will be held in Lamu, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Turkana, Samburu, Kilifi, Tana River, Mombasa, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Bungoma, Busia, Homa Bay, Migori, as well as in Kwale, Garissa, Isiolo, Nyamira, Kajiado, Kiambu, Muranga and Uasin Gishu counties.
On Wednesday, the party will hold the polls in Nairobi, Nyeri, Laikipia, Embu, Taita Taveta, Nyandarua, Narok, Nakuru, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, West Pokot and Trans Nzoia.
