Jubilee MP tells CORD to forget disbandment of IEBC
Manyatta Member of Parliament John Muchiri has condemned the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy’s (CORD) on its move to push for the disbandment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The legislator says that the coalition brigades should follow due process in pushing for their agenda instead of calling for mass action.
According to Muchiri, CORD’s push for the disbandment of the commission is a waste of time which will not yield any result, adding that the commission officers are legally in office as per to the constitution.
He instead advised the youth to refrain from being used by politicians, who only want to meet their political goals but use their energy to better their lives.
He was responding to CORD’s proclamation that it will hold protests every week until IEBC commissioners resign.
On Monday CORD stormed IEBC’s offices in a failed attempt to eject the commissioners out of office.
Tuesday morning, police lobbed teargas in Kisumu to disperse CORD supporters who were led by Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma who demonstrated in solidarity with their party leader Raila Odinga.
During the protests, a showdown was witnessed where, Central Gem MCA Fred Ouda was arrested after he chained himself to the Kisumu IEBC office gates.
On Thursday, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria sued Raila over Monday’s anti-IEBC protests, blaming CORD of contravening the constitution.
