Jowie back in jail as court cancels his bond ahead of sentencing

The High Court has cancelled the bond of Joseph Irungu alias ‘’Jowie’ after he was found guilty of murdering businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Justice Grace Nzioka found that the prosecution had adduced adequate evidence and proved beyond reasonable doubt that Jowie indeed killed Monica.

Consequently, the judge directed that Jowie would be remanded until his sentencing scheduled on March 8, 2024.

“After conviction, I am unable to accede and/or allow the prior by your counsel for you to remain on bond. I am cancelling your bond. You will be held in custody until March 8,” justice Nzioka directed.

Pending the hearing and determination of the case Jowie was out on a cash bail of Ksh. 2 million that was granted on February 13, 2020.

Meanwhile, Jowie's co-accused, former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe, has been set free after she was acquitted of the murder charge.

Delivering the judgment, the judge pointed out that the count of murder was not the proper charge that the prosecution would have preferred against her.
