Journalist Dickens Wasonga dies in road accident

The Star Newspaper journalist Dickens Wasonga has been confirmed dead following a road accident that occurred early Friday morning at the Mamboleo flyover on the Kisumu-Kakamega road.

Nyanza Regional Traffic Officer Allan Mwangi said the late Wasonga, who was based in Kisumu County, rammed a moving trailer while driving his vehicle.

He said that both vehicles were heading in the same direction at the time of the crash.

Wesonga’s body is currently lying at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary.

National leaders led by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and his colleagues have since visited to pay their tribute.

“Dickens was a very easy-going person, a team player, forthright and very cooperative and exhibited a lot of professionalism in everything that he did. As an industry we have lost a very integral member of the family,” CS Owalo said.

The wreckage of his car was towed to Kondele Police Station awaiting further directives.
