On Sunday, February 2, Gachagua noted that GEMA communities would be the key force behind the next government, with or without the support of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In response, Wanga called into question whether such remarks align with ODM's agenda, emphasising that the Opposition party remains a national party.
"There are some red flags such as if someone says we're this region and it will sweep seats in a certain place in Nairobi, be very afraid because ODM is a national party. When you say a certain region will sweep things, I observe and get concerned," she told NTV on Monday.
While explaining ODM's next political move, the Homa Bay governor reiterated that Raila would continue holding discussions across the country to determine the best course of action.
She reaffirmed that ODM had no formal arrangement with the Kenya Kwanza administration, citing that the current deal involves former ODM officials holding positions in the executive.
"So far, there's no formal document defining the arrangement between ODM and Kenya Kwanza. That is why as soon as our party leader came back, he began consultations with his supporters," Wanga pointed out.
"He's continuing the consultations and will tell us the direction to take. That's what we're waiting for in the coming weeks. Currently, the arrangement is that we have people in ODM working for the executive. We've also seen the former DP saying Raila to make up his mind and we will look at everything."
She dismissed claims that the opposition was neutered following a possible merger between Raila and President William Ruto.
"The Minority must be able to keep the government in check; that is the architecture of our constitution. Nothing at the moment stops ODM MPs from checking the government," she added.
Wanga's remarks come at a time when the key players are engaging in intense negotiations and strategic maneuvers to secure alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
