Political activist Morara Kebaso has narrated the insight behind the harrowing attack he experienced during a public participation exercise held at the Bomas of Kenya to debate the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kebaso met a harsh reception when he joined the convocation on Friday and shortly after taking his seat he was attacked by unknown people who pelted him with chairs leaving him with head, neck, and leg injuries.

Reflecting on the event, Kebaso believes that the attack was pre-planned and there were clear signs that a trap was lying in wait for his arrival.

He said that upon his arrival at the main gate, he was prevented from going in by police officers but members of the public forced the officers to allow him in.

"I was then prevented from entering the door at Bomas, I went to another door and I was still prevented and also to the third door. I came to the first door and found a high-ranking officer who said that I can only go in with one person and I think that is where my security was compromised," he said speaking on Spice FM.

"There were enough red flags that I did not see. I had announced my position on my TikTok and Twitter that we impeach both the President and Deputy President and having done that there were people who were uncomfortable with that."

Inside the auditorium, Kebaso noted that the event's MC, Ruaraka Member of Parliament TJ Kajwang', was not pleased when the crowd wanted him to table his views and that is when chaos erupted.

He added that Kajwang' even opined that Kebaso should not be handed the microphone because he would disrupt the meeting.

"It seems I was unwelcome to the ODM organised event and plans had been made much earlier that I'll be attacked because when signs of being attacked were showing up I was seated, raising my hand to speak. It's the public that demanded that I speak but it was not the wish of the MC TJ Kajwang' that I speak," said Kebaso.

The activist said that he then suddenly saw a team of "goons" coming from behind the podium and immediately took chairs and directed them towards Kebaso and his team.

"They have been identified, most of them work for Kajwang, others for Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North MP) and others for George Aladwa (Makadara MP)...and they started moving tables, picked chairs and started throwing them at me."

"I kept calm but when it got serious I tried to escape but the exit towards the side I was escaping was closed so I was cornered, my bodyguard was injured and I was hit by more than 30 chairs."

Kebaso added that members of the public even attempted to place chairs on top of him to act as a shield from the flying ones.

He said that he was helped by an officer and good samaritans who whisked him out of the auditorium where he was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and then transferred to another health facility.

"I went to another hospital when it went viral that I was in Nairobi Hospital because at this time I didn't know what I was dealing with and I don't know how the security situation was," he said.

Kebaso has asserted that he will not relent in his fight against poor governance and will not tire censuring the government against corruption.

"This week I am beginning a campaign for reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) because we want to recall members of parliament because they no longer represent the voice of the people," added Kebaso.

He also believes that the country's leadership should be ousted since they have failed to address their ambitious promises to Kenyans.

"It is my personal belief that Gachagua is a worse leader than (President) William Ruto in terms of what he stands for, his history of corruption. I think he should be impeached. The only problem is that the people impeaching him also deserve to be impeached."
