Division continues to be witnessed in the Isiolo County Government, as Governor Abdi Guyo pits himself against Members of the County Assembly.

On Thursday, a camp allied to the county boss denounced an impeachment motion voted by 16 out of 18 MCAs.

The office of the governor would later, in a statement, say that “no lawful impeachment had taken place.”

It further termed the Thursday exercise at the County Assembly as unlawful, and that it failed to adhere to the constitutional and procedural requirements as set out under Kenyan law.

The office of the governor further stated that the County Assembly did not convene properly as required by the law.

On the other hand, County Assembly Clerk, Salad Boru Guracha, who had been removed from office  before reinstatement by court last week also dismissed the impeachment process.

Boru argued that the Assembly is fully bound by a June 15, 2025 court order that halted the impeachment process.

This Office has not issued any notice, order paper, or deployed Officers for facilitating such a sitting, nor has it facilitated any proceedings, formal or informal, on the matter on the basis of the above,” said Boru.

The Clerk urged the public to disregard impeachment proceedings conducted by the Assembly with the support of 16 MCAs.

Governor Guyo snubbed the Assembly on Thursday, despite being formally invited to defend himself. The MCAs proceeded with the impeachment motion.

The motion to remove Governor Guyo was first tabled by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana on June 10, 2025, citing a litany of failures in leadership.

Among the accusations levelled against him were the stalling of key development projects, failure to meet revenue targets, and an inflated executive structure that included the appointment of 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, despite Isiolo County receiving the third-lowest revenue allocation in the country.

Guyo was also faulted for issuing short-term two-year contracts to chief officers, which the Assembly claims created an “environment of fear and uncertainty.”
