The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has
launched a probe into an incident where a woman was allegedly assaulted by a
police officer in Narok when she went to record a statement.
The woman is said to have visited the Naroosura Police Station
to report a domestic matter after her husband allegedly swindled her out of a
motorcycle they bought together.
According to the woman, her husband reportedly sidelined her
from the profits of the motorcycle business, leaving her high and dry.
Instead, she claimed, the man went on to engage in an affair
with another woman, with whom he would spend the proceeds of the motorcycle business.
On reporting the matter at the police station, where she also
sought help, she was surprised when the officer turned on her and physically
assaulted her, leaving her with injuries.
IPOA Chairperson Issack Hassan, in a statement to newsrooms on
Tuesday, revealed that the matter is presently under probe while the woman continues
to receive treatment in hospital.
“Following widely circulated images on social media depicting
injuries sustained by a woman, allegedly inflicted by a police officer, IPOA
reached out to the affected family yesterday, Monday, 21 April 2025,” IPOA stated.
“An independent investigation into the matter has been
launched and preliminary findings by our Rapid Response team indicate that the
victim is receiving treatment at Narok Level 5 Hospital.”
