Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now say that their probe into the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi is done and dusted.

This comes after DCI boss Amin Mohamed recently ordered for fresh investigations into the death of the 23-year-old, who sleuths previously claimed was murdered before being thrown out of the 10th-floor window of Mugithi artiste Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo's house at Redwood Apartments in Kasarani on February 22, 2023.

So, then, if the probe is over then what next? Are any arrests likely to be made soon? As far as all these and many more questions go, the detectives - in a statement released on Wednesday - said they have since forwarded the file on the probe to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for "perusal and advice."

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has this afternoon completed investigations into the death of Jeff Mwathi, 23, who died on February 22, 2023, in unclear circumstances,” read the statement.

“This is after the Homicide department, that has been investigating the incident received an autopsy report from the government Pathologist and the government Chemist, following a fresh probe into the death as ordered by the DCI Director, Mr Mohamed Amin.

The sleuths on March 31, 2023 collected more samples for toxicological analysis after exhuming Mwathi’s body to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted a second autopsy after the body was exhumed in Njoro, Nakuru County, on the same day, revealed that samples had been taken to ascertain if Mwathi was sodomized or not.

Detectives also took measurements of Mwathi's chest width to ascertain whether he jumped off the apartment through the window as had been alleged during preliminary investigations, or not.

Mr. Oduor further revealed that the second autopsy did not disclose any inconsistencies with the first, adding that Mwathi indeed died as a result of severe injuries to the head.
