The EACC officers were carrying out court-issued search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of irregular procurement and fraudulent payments totaling Ksh1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government.
The alleged financial misconduct occurred during the fiscal years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025.
The operation targeted Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya's residence and office, as well as properties owned by four other people involved in the investigation.
According to the EACC, the search at Governor Natembeya's home was being carried out in the presence of his family members, the county attorney, and legal counsel when the situation became violent.
A group of unidentified people reportedly stormed the premises, overwhelming security personnel on the scene.
The attackers vandalized five EACC vehicles and stole seized items and other valuables, effectively disrupting the anti-corruption operation.
Authorities have condemned the attack as a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice and undermine the rule of law. The DCI has affirmed its commitment to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
“This is not just an attack on EACC officers; it is an attack on the integrity of our justice system,” said a senior investigator familiar with the case.
