Interior Ministry to reinforce its role in enabling development
The Ministry of Interior is
exploring additional ways to reinforce its role as a critical enabler of
sustainable socio-economic development in the country.
According to Interior Principal Secretary
(PS) Dr Raymond Omollo, the intention is to sharpen the National
Government Administrative Officers' (NGAOs) structure and make them effective in their responsibilities at the grassroots level for
efficient delivery of services.
"We currently have 14,406
national government administrators across the country, right from the Regional
Commissioners down to the Assistant Chiefs. These are our pillars in the
provision of security and citizen services," said the Interior PS.
Dr Omollo noted that the
State Department was keen on fully aligning its operations with the
government’s inclusive socio-economic transformation by ensuring that there is
a safe and secure environment for every citizen to participate in
nation-building endeavors.
He also undertook to lead from
the front in intensifying the coordination, supervision, monitoring, and
reporting on national government projects and programmes to ensure citizens get
value for their money across all sectors of the economy.
"Maintenance of law and
order is our core business, but we are also exploring better ways on how we can
engage and work more collaboratively with other agencies and partners to ensure
optimum service delivery to mwananchi," he said.
Among other duties, government
administrators also oversee the dissemination and implementation of government
policies; coordination of security agencies in the field; and coordination of
disaster management and emergency responses.
This was among the submissions
made by the PS during the inaugural meeting of all Principal Secretaries
chaired by the Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi at KSG Lower
Kabete, to have State Departments synergize their operations under the
all-of-government approach to service delivery.
