Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki is one of 50 continental trendsetters who
have been nominated for the Business Review Africa Magazine's 2022 African
Trailblazers Award.
Kindiki, Equity Group CEO James Mwangi, Glass
House PR CEO Mary Njoki, tech entrepreneur Nelly Cheboi as well as software engineer
Catherine Mathugu are the only Kenyans who made the list.
The Interior CS has, among other things, been
recognised by the Nigeria-based magazine for sponsoring more than twelve bills
in the Senate during his time as Tharaka Nithi Senator.
"Key among his legislative legacy is the
County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2013, which sought to untangle the sharing
of revenue among county governments," the magazine stated.
"He has also introduced Community Land
Bill 2013, the County Allocation of Revenue Bill 2014, the Division of Revenue
Bill 2014, the Public Finance (Management (Amendment Bill, 2014, Kenya Medical
Supplies Authority (Amendment Bill 2013 and the Alcoholic Drinks Control
(Amendment) Bill, 2014 among other pieces of legislation."
The CS has also been acknowledged for
improving the state of security in Nairobi and mitigating cases of terror
attacks across the country in his first 100 days as Interior boss.
"He also oversaw the destruction of a
huge cache of weapons and explosives that could have harmed Kenyan citizens if
they were not intercepted," the Nigerian magazine stated.
The former Senator has also been appreciated
for stepping up border patrols and surveillance on the proliferation of illicit
arms and banditry attacks in Kenya.
"His key objective is to open up the
affected areas for economic takeoff. His rapid response saw nearly 60 percent
recovery of all livestock stolen across the ten counties where rampant
livestock rustling was reported," said the Business Review Africa
Magazine.
CS Kindiki has correspondingly been lauded
for initiating the installation of a universal personal identifier and a
digital identity card in Kenya that will aggregate all the identification needs
for public services.
