Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga is the most popular presidential candidate in Nairobi County alongside his running mate Martha Karua, a new survey released Wednesday shows.

The poll conducted by Infotrak placed Mr. Odinga and Ms. Karua at 49 percent, ahead of Kenya Kwanza’s William Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua who came in at 30 percent.

Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah and his running mate Justina Wamae, meanwhile, recorded a 5 percent popularity among Nairobians, with Agano Party’s David Waihiga and Ruth Mutua fourth at 0.3 percent.

Fifteen per cent of the respondents refused to say whom they are supporting for the top seat.

The same poll shows the Raila-led ODM party as the most popular party in the county at 51 percent, while the DP Ruto-led UDA party comes a distant second, with 31 percent.

The Jubilee party is at 8 percent, Wiper at 6 percent while Roots Party and ANC are at 1 percent in terms of popularity.

In the Nairobi governor race, the poll projected Johnson Sakaja as the most likely candidate to win if the polls were held today.

Sakaja who is allied to the Dr. Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza alliance is at 39 percent in terms of popularity, with a 6-point lead against Jubilee's Polycarp Igathe, who comes a close second at 33 percent.

In the race for the next Nairobi Senator, ODM's Edwin Sifuna is the most preferred candidate, with 44 percent of those queried saying they would vote for him.

Kenya Kwanza's Bishop Margaret Wanjiru comes at a distant second, with 12 percent. 5 percent of those queried failed to give an answer while 39 percent are yet to settle on their candidate of choice.

Elsewhere, the poll showed that Esther Passaris is likely to retain her Nairobi County Woman Rep seat, where she enjoys 46 percent popularity, while UDA's Millicent Omanga is at 20 percent.

Infotrack said the survey targeted 1,024 Kenyans across the 17 constituencies in Nairobi.

It was self-funded and was conducted between 2-3 July through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews.
