The late Profesor George Magoha’s family is all in the medical profession. The former Cabinet Secretary, who died on Tuesday after a cardiac arrest, was a urologist.

His wife, Dr Barbara Odudu Magoha, is a consultant obstetrician gynecologist to various hospitals in the country.

Their son, Michael Augustus Achianja Magoha, is a neurosurgeon.

Born in 1985, Dr Magoha attended Strathmore School for his primary education before proceeding to Brookehouse School for his secondary education.

He then attended the University of Nairobi for his undergraduate studies, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).

He would later go back to the university two years later for a Master of Medicine in Neurological Surgery (M.Med NS) degree.

Magoha, who describes his career objective as “being a knowledgeable and research oriented top grade Neurosurgeon”, is currently a lecturer in Neurosurgery at the Department of Surgery of the University of Nairobi.

The 38-year-old has previously practised at the Groote Schuur Hospital, the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and the Aga Khan University Teaching Hospital in Nairobi.

In his professional profile, Dr Magoha has professed love for playing the guitar like his late father.

The late Prof. Magoha’s family is yet to settle on a date for the former CS’s burial.

They are organising the burial of Magoha’s brother, Prof. Richard Alex Nyabera, who passed away on December 6, 2022 in Allen, Texas, United States.

The family on Wednesday said Prof. Nyabera’s planned Saturday burial will not be interfered with despite his brother passing on as well.
