Kitui County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance, Peter Kilonzo, can now breathe a sigh of relief after an impeachment attempt against him failed to take off.

The impeachment motion was tabled in the County Assembly by Kiumo/Kethani MCA Antony Musyoka, who failed to get a seconder in the House.

The motion was hence withdrawn pursuant to Standing Order No 54(1) which, according to the House,  states that "the question on any motion shall not be proposed unless it shall have been seconded and any motion that is not seconded shall be deemed to have been withdrawn, and shall not be moved again in the same session.”

Kilonzo, who now will continue undertaking duties of his office as usual, assured Kitui residents of the county government’s commitment to service delivery.

The impeachment motion had previously been termed by supporters of Kilonzo and Governor Julius Malombe as baseless and politically motivated.

They claimed that it was a mere ploy to destabilize Governor Malombe’s administration and weaken the county government by targeting Kilonzo, but lacked substantial evidence.
