Embattled United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Cleophas Malala has urged President William Ruto to block the alleged plan of impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during a church service in Kiambu County on Sunday, Malala argued that the alleged plan to oust DP Gachagua will also bite President Ruto in the next general election.

Malala stated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party-allied legislators reportedly pushing for the ouster motion will train their guns to cripple him from clinching the presidential seat for a second term.

"I am not qualified to advise but these people you want to use to oust your deputy who stood with you, you might be thinking that you are impeaching Rigathi Gachagua but you have started the journey of removing yourself," he said.

"The same people who are moving that motion, and I am being told that they have selected Junet Mohamed and Peter Kaluma, will start by removing your deputy but I assure you those same people will remove you as president."

He therefore urged the President to crack the whip and end the political friction with his deputy, noting that Gachagua's loyalty to him has even seen the DP arrested.

"Please call your house to order, don't punish Rigathi Gachagua. This man was humiliated in front of his children, he was arrested because of you William Ruto. We urge you not to be inhuman," he said.

Malala's sentiments were echoed by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba who claimed that a plan is being hatched to present the impeachment motion in Parliament next week.

"We hate betrayal. The impeachment is being planned and those people who are being used to sign it are the same ones who insulted and humiliated. My president, please remember," she said.

"Kiambu County gave you (Ruto) 606,000 votes. Respect those votes and let Rigathi Gachagua do his job."

This comes amid rumours that the relationship between the President and DP Gachagua has turned sour and Gachagua is getting the short end of the stick.

Gachagua even intimated during a tell-all interview with Citizen TV that in-house politicking within UDA and the umbrella Kenya Kwanza outfit has seen leaders insulting him and they remain unchecked.

Gachagua called on President Ruto to protect him from the constant insults, reminding him of the promise made during the 2022 campaign season.
