‘I’m retired but not tired,’ Uhuru says as he vows to keep supporting Raila
Former President
Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated his support for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya
coalition party leader Raila Odinga, whom he backed in the hotly-contested 2022
poll for the top seat, in his political quest going forward.
Speaking in
Luanda, Vihiga County, shortly after attending the burial of former Education
Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha in Siaya County, Uhuru maintained that
despite retiring from active politics, he’s still very much energised and will not
depart from the political arena anytime soon.
The former Head of
State said he would continue to rally behind the Azimio chief in his fight for
the unity and liberation of all Kenyans.
“I have been the
president for nearly 10 years…right now I’m retired, but retired is not tired.
Kustaafu sio kuchoka…ata wengine wakistaafu ndio nguvu inaongezeka,” he stated amidst
cheers from the crowd.
“Even if I am not
in active politics, I am still a follower of Raila. When he tells me to go, I
must go.”
The fourth
president spoke in his first public address since exiting office, and together
with opposition leader Mr. Odinga as well as other Azimio members.
Uhuru similarly
defended his undying support for the Azimio leader insisting that he is within
his democratic rights to support any political leader he deems fit.
“Ndio maana nasema
nilimuunga mkono wakati huo na bado nitaendelea kumuunga mkono kwa sababu najua
yeye ni mtu wa ukweli ambaye anataka kuunganisha Wakenya na anataka amani
katika nchi yetu,” he stated.
“I am within my
democratic rights to support the person I want. Hakuna kiti natafuta, lakini
Baba akitafuta mimi sina shida, mimi niko hapo.”
