'I'm on maternity leave,' Nakuru Governor Kihika says on absence from county events
Nakuru County Governor
Susan Kihika has addressed growing concerns surrounding her notable absence
from the devolved unit’s affairs in recent months, explaining that she is
currently on maternity leave.
Kihika, 51, has been away
from the public eye for the better part of three months, prompting speculation
about her whereabouts, given her prominent role as the governor of a
high-profile county like Nakuru.
In a statement on Friday,
Kihika reassured Nakuru County residents that everything is well from her end
and that she would resume her responsibilities in the coming weeks.
“Following numerous calls
that I have received regarding my absence. as the elected Governor of Nakuru
County. I want to first of all assure the people of Nakuru that I am well and
currently on maternity leave,” she said in the statement.
“I will be resuming
official duties at the end of my leave in the next few weeks.”
Further, Kihika expressed
confidence in her deputy, David Kones, highlighting that he has been effectively holding the fort and will continue to do so in her
absence.
“While thanking the
people of Nakuru for their concern, I whole heartedly assure them that the
service delivery in our Great County is proceeding as envisaged under the able
guidance of the team led by Deputy Governor David Kones. I have no doubts whatsoever
in H.E. Kones leading them in my absence. God bless you all,” she said.
