I'm fully behind President Ruto, DP Gachagua - MP Ndindi Nyoro says
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has
come out to dispel reports of a purported tiff between himself and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua
over Mt. Kenya region succession politics.
Addressing
a political gathering on Friday, Nyoro dismissed concerns that Kenya Kwanza
leaders from the region are split, stating that they’re all
fully behind the leadership of President William Ruto and his deputy Gachagua.
MP
Nyoro seemingly took a political backseat, reiterating that he is content behind
the country’s top two leaders, adding that he is focused on
service delivery and promoting the success of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“We
as members of Kenya Kwanza, all of us, have given our President William Ruto
and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua total and unconditional support as they lead
our nation,” he said.
“When
the two are in front, all of us including me, are the foot soldiers for our
leaders. Our work is to support them; we are committed because we have a vision
and a plan to take the country's economy forward because if Kenya succeeds,
everyone else succeeds and that is why we support our leaders.”
He
added: “I want to assure you even as you come to join the President in taking
Kenya forward, all of us as Kenya Kwanza leaders, our focus is work, delivery
of services and economic transformation.”
The
outspoken lawmaker, in the same light, faulted an area legislator over a public
display of rivalry with Gachagua, urging him to respect the country’s
number two.
“I want to assure that if you say you're my friend, you should
also be President Ruto’s friend and DP Gachagua’s friend, because in Kenya
Kwanza we're a solid regime and united in service delivery and focused in
economic transformation,” he stated.
MP Nyoro’s
remarks come amidst an alleged battle for Mt. Kenya control with a section of
MPs from the region endorsing the legislator to succeed Gachagua as the President
Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 polls.
Despite
the President and his deputy coming out to trash the succession, talks maintaining
that they’re focused on service delivery to Kenyans and would not be distracted
by the substitution chorus, Nyeri Senator
Wahome Wamatinga and his Murang’a counterpart Joe Nyutu have
sustained their push for Nyoro as preferred leaders.
President
Ruto on Thursday condemned the succession talks, stressing that current leaders
should instead focus on fulfilling their promises and commitments to Kenyans.
“Let
me ask all leaders that we focus our attention on the delivery of the
assignment given to us by the people of Kenya,” he said.
“Especially
leaders in Kenya Kwanza and UDA, I want to ask them to step down any contestations
for whatever positions - present or future - so that we can work.”
