IHRM launches 4-day convention to equip members with critical communication skills

The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) has organized a four-day public speaking and communication convention in Mombasa, ostensibly to provide key communications skills to HR executives.

Communication skills, according to IHRM Chair Dalmas Odero Philips, who opened the convention on Tuesday, are a critical component of leadership.

“A leader has to be compelling and persuasive in order to influence and motivate people to work towards the shared vision,” Mr. Odero told guests on Tuesday.

“A combination of great skills and competency in HR coupled with executive public speaking and communication skills is a sure way of becoming an effective HR leader transforming their organizations and the profession.

Odero is confident that the convention will transform attendees into world-class speakers.

"It is my hope that in the next 4 days we will receive insights aimed at transforming us into world-class speakers who will cause transformation not just through what we know but also through how we communicate what we know,"

IHRM is a Statutory body established under the HRMP Act, No. 52 of 2012. Its mandate is to oversee the HR industry in Kenya, develop skills and capabilities, and support progressive and transformative HR standards and practices.
