The Independent
Electoral and Boundaries Commission is set to hold a media briefing conference
in regard to the oncoming 2022 general elections.
The conference
dubbed Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR II) which is slated for
Friday 7th January will be held at Lake Naivasha Resort along Moi South Road in
Nakuru County.
In a statement on Thursday, the Commission notified of the forthcoming
convention expected to be attended by the IEBC Chairman and other commissioners
saying it was meant to plan and direct on the August 9th General Elections.
IEBC called on the National Registration Bureau (NRB) that is mandated in the
issuance of the National Identification Cards (ID) to grace the meeting.
“In this regard, the Commission invites officials from the National
Registration Bureau (NRB) to share the status of National Identification cards
issuance.
This is to the consideration that according to the constitution, for a person
to be registered as a voter, he or she must be above 18 years of age and in
possession of a Kenyan ID or a valid Passport.
Last week, the commission had announced that it would embark on a second Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) and diaspora voter registration in January this year after failing to beat its target at the end of November last year.
In fulfilment of one of its constitutional mandates, the Commission will in January 2022, conduct the second Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) and diaspora voter registration," said Chebukati on Friday 31, December.
"We, therefore, urge all eligible citizens who are yet to be registered as voters to turn up at our Registration Centers for enrollment."
