Ichung'wah: I am not interested in Interior CS position

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has dismissed reports he aims at replacing Kithure Kindiki as Interior Cabinet Secretary should the latter assume Deputy President office.

Speaking in Rabai, Kilifi County, Ichung'wah reiterated that he was not interested in taking up any CS position but was focused on delivering services to Kikuyu residents and serving as Majority leader at the National Assembly.

He further pointed out that his role in kicking out impeached DP Rigathi Gachagua from office was in service to the nation; dismissing allegations that he had a personal vendetta against the man of the mountain.

"There's a leader who said that I should take up the Interior CS's position. Let me tell him that I already have a duty that I'm doing and don't want to confuse people. I led the front at the National Assembly during the impeachment motion and it's not because we hated one person, it's because we loved development more," Ichung'wah said.

"I did not do it so as to get another position. I am not interested in a CS position. I have a duty for the people of Kikuyu and at the National Assembly," he added.

Ichung'wah was among the names that critics claimed could benefit from Gachagua's impeachment in either taking up the DP or interior slot.

Known to be in the president's inner circle, the lawmaker has not held back in the past few months in accusing Gachagua of sabotaging the nation.

President William Ruto forwarded CS Kindiki's name to the National Assembly in a special sitting held on Friday following the Senate's decision to uphold Gachagua's impeachment.

The MPs unanimously approved Kindiki as DP nominee and all was set for the Interior CS to take up the country's second highest office.

This was, however, curtailed when the courts issued conservatory orders; suspending the Senate impeachment and barring Kindiki from assuming the office until Gachagua's case was heard and determined.
