National Assembly Majority
Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has dismissed reports suggesting that he
has sponsored a new Bill in Parliament seeking the removal of the Auditor
General as the head of the National Audit Office.
The so-called Bill reportedly sought
to give the Audit Advisory Board control over budgets, human resources and
other key decisions, limiting the Auditor General’s autonomy.
News of the alleged Bill started
doing rounds on social media following a damning report by Auditor General
Nancy Gathungu, which claimed that the government does not own or control the ambitious Ksh.104.8 billion Social Health Authority (SHA).
Many speculated that her
revelations did not sit well with the powers that be, prompting suggestions
that this could be the reason behind the supposed Bill seeking her removal.
In a statement on X, Ichungwa’h
rejected the claims, emphasizing that the allegations were baseless and
fabricated by individuals who want to mislead the public.
“The propaganda lords
have crafted their own non-existent bill on the office of the Auditor General
with provisions that only exist in their infertile imaginations,” he said.
Ichung’wah added that
some of the clauses captured in the proposed bill are not not only unrealistic
but also unconstitutional.
“All one needs to do is
to read as only fools would believe such unconstitutional things can be crafted,”
he said.
Further, Ichung’wah urged
Kenyans to seek the truth by consulting official sources, specifically the
Parliamentary website, which provides accurate information on all active bills.
“For a factual view of
all bills before Parliament just visit the Parliamentary website and ignore the
disingeneous propaganda,” he said.
