I don't have time for clan endorsements, says Garissa MP Duale

The former Majority leader in the National Assembly, who also hails from the Awdhaq clan said that he has no time for endorsements from the elders and will be seeking re-election using the UDA party in the 2022 polls.
Speaking in Garissa, Duale gave the clearest indication that his was a cosmopolitan constituency and the ultimate decision on who will be elected lies with the people of Garissa ‘and not a few clan elders’.
Duale’s comments barely two weeks after the Awdhaq council of elders endorsed Garissa Governor Ali Korane as its sole candidate for the Garissa governorship ahead of the 2022 elections.
Korane’s endorsement ended the long wait and anxiety of aspirants who had presented their applications to the council.
Duale also took time to popularize the UDA party which he said was the only party that unites Kenyans but also resonates well with the common mwananchi through their bottom up approach economic model.
Clans and communities in the pastoral counties have in the recent past been holding meetings and making endorsements for aspirants they think are best suited to carry the community’s flag in the 2022 general election.
Some residents are in full support of the clan endorsement process saying it unites communities and strengthens cohesion.
However critics say negotiated democracy is a sanitized system of impunity with no foundational democratic ethos or ideological framework.
