I can’t criticize Ruto’s government – CS Wandayi
Energy Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi has told off Orange
Democratic Movement (ODM) members expecting him to criticize President William
Ruto’s government.
Addressing mourners in Siaya County on Saturday, Wandayi
argued that those willing to critique the Kenya Kwanza administration could
continue to do so.
“There is a time for everything. Nobody has stopped you –
who is outside the cabinet from criticizing the government. You can continue
criticizing it until cows come back home. I also want to be critiqued as a
member of executive for me to deliver services properly. But don’t expect me to
join you in criticizing the executive, that can’t be my work,” said Wandayi.
Wandayi said the party leaders opposed to the broad-based
government cannot force him to criticize the administration he is now part of.
“It is the work of parliament, both the national assembly
and senate, to oversight the executive” he said adding “to expect me as a
member of the executive to participate in the criticism of the government that
I serve in is to stretch the imagination too far.”
He however noted that the country is now on a positive
trajectory, with the economy back on its tracks. Wandayi cited a credit ranking
by Moody’s which revealed that Kenya has a potential ease in liquidity risks
and improving debt affordability over time.
“It is important to appreciate that Kenya is on a positive
trajectory. The government has done whatever it takes to ensure economy is back
on track,” he said.
