‘I am not bitter,’ Wangui Ngirici says as she vows to petition Waiguru’s win
Independent candidate Wangui Ngirici has
said that she will challenge Anne Waiguru’s win in the just completed Kirinyaga
Gubernatorial race.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday,
Ngirici said that the gubernatorial votes were rigged and “God is revealing slowly
by slowly what went down.”
“I am not bitter with anybody, I am only
going to follow through and make sure the will of the people will not be
subverted. We are going to go on, we will make a petition,” she said.
The gubernatorial hopeful added that she
has enough evidence that approximately 51,000 votes were rigged in favour of
UDA’s Waiguru.
Ngirici expressed optimism that God’s
justice will be in her favour, urging supporters not to pity her.
“I want to tell my supporters to keep calm
because I know this county supported me and people believe that there is
democracy in Kenya, I also believe so. Let’s keep praying…. Don’t call me to
say sorry, tell me Christ liveth,” Ngirici said.
Waiguru and Ngirici’s quest for Kirinyaga
governorship was a heated race, marred with accusations of rigging from
both parties. This even prompted the IEBC to repeat vote tallying in one
constituency.
On Friday, IEBC declared Waiguru the Governor-elect, after she garnered 113,088 votes against Ngirici who had 105,677
votes.
