Human trafficking: 16 Ethiopians rescued from Kayole house near police station

Sixteen Ethiopians have been rescued from a house in Matopeni area, Kayole, Njiru sub county in a case of suspected human trafficking.

Residents said the group was rescued after they heard screams for help and food.

The group had been bundled inside a two bedroom, unfinished house, just about 200metres from Kayole Police Station.

They said they had been in Kenya for more than two months and have been starved for the last three weeks and beaten when they ask for food.

Area police commander  Paul Wambugu confirmed the incident, adding that the police are looking for the owners of the house.

Residents have urged the government to conduct a crackdown on human trafficking, following another incident last week in Athi River.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rescued 18 victims of human trafficking from a house in Athi River, Machakos County.

According to the DCI, the 18 were enroute to a destination in the Gulf where they were to be sold as slaves. 

The raid conducted by detectives from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit saw three suspects namely; Abdullahi Hussein Mohamed, 32, Hassan Ibrahim Godana, 35 and Chari Dulacha, 40 arrested.
