How NYS suspect Anne Ngirita rose from rags to riches

A day after four Ngirita family members were arrested over the Ksh.8billion National Youth Service (NYS) scam, residents are still reeling from the realization that some of their own may have been involved.

Anne Ngirita, 30, is alleged to have received Ksh.59 million for supplying absolutely nothing to NYS.

Since then, residents in Naivasha have divulged secrets about encounters with her and her family.

Those who saw them rise from rags to riches but were afraid to speak openly for fear of reprisals told Citizen Digital of the Ngirita family’s humble beginnings.

Their sudden lavish lifestyle raised eyebrows as people questioned the source of funds.

According to one boda boda rider, who claims he sat next to Anne at the Naivasha DEB Primary School, she was a quiet child who kept to herself until she completed Class Eight in 2003.

The rider who spoke on condition of anonymity said that they lost touch for a few years but when she resurfaced, her status had changed.

“They moved from the county council houses straight to the lavish Lakeview Estate,” he said.

According to him the change occurred shortly after Anne travelled to Germany.

Since her sister was already married to a German, they thought that he was the source of her newfound wealth.

However, a local newspaper quoted a 2014 German article which showed that Anne had sought asylum, claiming she was at risk of being forced to undergo genital mutilation in Kenya.

When she returned, residents claim she went into business, initially using taxis to travel back and forth. She would later buy a fleet of vehicles and start her own transport business.

Reports that emerged linking her to the latest NYS scandal seem to have answered many of the residents questions.
