How Kenyan brands marked 'Customer Service Week'

As the Customer Service Week comes to a close, top Kenyan companies pulled all the stops as they treated their customers to a myriad of gifts, free services, entertainment, freebies and even cash rewards.

Kenya Airways, while celebrating their clientele, used the services of top Kenyan band Kayamba Africa to entertain travellers waiting for their flight.

A video on their social media pages shows the excited staff and passengers dancing to the tunes, something that hardly happens at the airport.

"Put on your dancing shoes when departing from Nairobi because the electric Kayamba Africa are here to play," read the caption on the video.

It was a move that put smiles on the faces of passengers who ordinarily have to wait in a quiet lounge until their boarding time comes.

GPC, a leading fertilizer company in Kenya, was also one of the companies that went out of their way to excite their customers.

Early Thursday morning, GPC, in conjunction with SBL limited, distributed over 100 cakes nationally to all National Cereals and Produce Board outlets.

The cakes, proudly emblazoned with the company's logo, would then be distributed to staff, farmers and clients from all corners of the country.

From Nanyuki to Embu, Eldoret to Narok, farmers flocked the outlets to have a bite of the cake and also receive gifts that included key holders, chains, watches and notebooks.

"We felt the need to give back to the community and appreciate our customers on this day. It's always good to reward the people who are most loyal to your products and this is one of the ways we thought best," Hilda Birech, GPC spokesperson, said.

Photos of elated clients, farmers and officials, cutting and eating cake, made the rounds across the internet Thursday afternoon.

Popular Facebook blogger Wahome Thuku also took to his Facebook page to ask Kenyans to narrate their experiences while purchasing cooking gas in their local shops and supermarkets.

Customer Service Week runs during the first work week of October, and this year it runs from October 3 through October 7.

The week-long observation recognizes those who keep customers informed, keep customers satisfied, and keep companies running.

The goal of the week is to boost morale by rewarding customer service workers as essential to the community.

It also reminds customers the value of thanking those customer service representatives.
