The Union of Health Care Workers in Homa Bay County has suspended a strike which was to kick off on Monday, after reaching a consensus with the County Government of Homa Bay.

The union comprising Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), Clinical officers, and Laboratory Technicians among others planned to go on strike from Monday over salary payment delay, promotions, and reinstatement of their colleagues whose names were scrapped off from the payroll without explanations.

However, the union officials on Monday evening suspended the strike and called on their members to go on with their duties after meeting the county top leadership officials from the department of Health.

National vice chairperson of clinical officers Austine Odiwuor, who spoke on behalf of other union leaders said they agreed to suspend the strike after the county government showed interest to urgently address some of their grievances.

County Secretary Bernard Muok said they are committed to ensuring all the grievances presented to them by the union leaders are addressed.
