Homa Bay gears for mass cattle vaccination amid rise in lumpy skin disease
Deputy governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga says they have witnessed the resurgence of lumpy skin disease in a number of sub counties including Ndhiwa, Mbita and Rachuonyo North sub counties.
Magwanga says the department of Agriculture is concerned about the outbreak and working out means to keep the disease away.
Magwanga, who doubles up as a CECM for Agriculture and Livestock development says the county has planned for a mass livestock vaccination in villages from February 2025.
He says the exercise is different from the National vaccination drive that has been marred by controversy and heavy resistance.
He appeals to livestock farmers to embrace the vaccination program so that their animals can be prevented from contracting the infectious skin disease whose outbreak has been noted in the region.
