Homa Bay County gov't notifies workers of December salary delays
The county government of Homa Bay has notified its workers
that they will not be paid their December salaries on time.
This, the Governor Gladys Wanga-led administration said, is
due to delayed disbursement of funds to the devolved unit from the National Treasury.
In an internal memo seen by Citizen Digital, County Secretary Bernard
Muok told employees of the county government to tighten their belts due to this
cash crisis.
Mr. Muok said the county has been experiencing a delay in
salary payment due to inordinate exchequer delays lasting three months.
In the memo, the County Secretary noted that the Governor Wanga
administration does not have a culture of delaying salaries.
He said since taking office, Governor Wanga has emphasized
numerous times her commitment to improving staff welfare, which involves, among
other things, early payment of salaries.
He asked for patience and understanding from the county
workers and assured them that the salaries will be paid as soon as possible.
