‘Hesabu haziingiani,’ Martha Karua says as she hints at heading to East African Court
Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua, who was former premier Raila odinga's running mate in the 2022 State House race, maintains
that she is not in agreement with the Supreme Court judgment that upheld President-elect
William Ruto’s win at the August polls.
Karua,
speaking at her Kimunye home in Kirinyaga County on Saturday, said she is
pondering taking her grievances to the East African Court of Justice, purely to
seek further interpretation of the 7-judge bench’s ruling.
According
to her, a lot of events surrounding the 2022 presidential election do not make
sense to her, hence stating that she is yet to fully accept that they were actually
beaten at the polls fair and square.
“Nairobi
democracy,” she stated.
kweli korti yetu ilitupatia haki. Sasa sio mambo ya uchaguzi, mambo ya haki,
vile nilienda wakati ule mwingine.”
She
added: “Kwa vile korti ilisema tuko na hot air…hot air balloon inaweza nipeleka
East Africa…I am actually considering whether to travel on a hot air balloon to
the East African Court just to discuss that judgment. Hii si maono ya Azimio,
now it’s me as a Kenyan because also I’m entitled, as an individual, so it’s
something I’m considering.”
She
however noted that, for the time being, they – Azimio – will have to live and
contend with the Supreme Court judgment, adding that she is proceeding on a political
sabbatical.
This
as she waits for the comprehensive judgment from the apex court’s 7 judges,
which is set to be released within 21 days after the date of the presidential
petition ruling.
“For
now, because I have time, I will take a break…and also because korti ilisema
she said.
sababu zetu…wacha korti itoe sababu zake, nitoe zangu nipeleke kwengine.”
